About Paula
Paula's recent film, Samira's Camera, tells the true story of an Afghan mother and filmmaker who defied the Taliban. It was featured at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, Movies that Matter, Amnesty International, and the Austin International Film Festival. It was also screened for the Canadian Parliament.
The 49%'s most recent project, The Collective, is a group of Muslim and Jewish women dedicated to combating extremism, terrorism, and antisemitism in the wake of October 7th.
Paula's films have been featured in several international film festivals and distributed on Netflix, Amazon, iTunes, DirecTV and Al-Hurra, among other international platforms. Her writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Politico, Newsweek and The Jerusalem Post.
Paula’s first film, Honor Diaries, was a groundbreaking documentary and one of the first to explore various forms of honor-based abuse against women and girls. The film was cited by Prime Minister David Cameron and mentioned in the official parliamentary records. It was critical in the movement to criminalize forced marriage in the UK. The film was also screened on Capitol Hill and at the UN Human Rights Council.
Paula is a Vital Voices Visionary and part of the ROI Community, a global network of Jewish changemakers. She is also a member of the NY Bar.
She grew up in Charlotte, NC and received a J.D. and B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a Robertson Scholar.
She holds an LL.M in Human Rights and International Law from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She lives in Ra'anana, Israel with her husband and three children.
